My career started on the front lines as an Educational Assistant. While I loved working with my students, I was privately suffocating under the weight of my own potential. I knew I was built for more, yet I found myself trapped in that exhausting cycle of working multiple, unsustainable roles just to stay afloat. I was tired, worn out, and honestly, just praying for someone to “give me a chance.”

That was the exact moment I stopped waiting for an invitation. I decided to flip the script.

Instead of going back to school to chase more credentials, I anchored myself in the experience I already had and leaned heavily into intentional authority. I took a strategic step back so I could launch forward.

The pivot worked. I unlocked what I call the “Big Girl Job”—stepping into transformative leadership roles across higher education institutions. I went from managing local departments to navigating the high-stakes complexities of organizational oversight, budget management, and systemic change.

I didn’t reach the director level because a door just happened to open for me. I built the key. And I learned firsthand that when you increase your professional competence, your results become entirely undeniable.
